April

Begin planting perennials now.

There are hundreds of “Native” perennials available for use in the Austin area. Pay attention to water and light requirements, most native perennials require full sunlight and very little water once established. Many natives will actually flower more profusely under drought stress conditions, over watering results in weak spindly growth and reduced flowering.

Brown patches in turf may be grub worms and not Fungus now. Identify problem and treat with appropriate granular insecticide if necessary.

Fertilize turf late in April with a slow release 15-5-10 or similar fertilizer.

Spot treat any stray weeds with appropriate herbicide, watch out for baby Crabgrass late in month.

Plant Caladium bulbs now!!!
