Chinch Bugs become the “Pest of the Month”, watch for large developing brown spots ( Patches may start to appear near concrete surfaces first as the soil adjacent to these areas heats up quickly). Verify problem and choose appropriate insecticide.

Time for second application of pre-emergent herbicide in turf areas. Choose one that provides good control of grassy weeds.

Cut back flowering perennials at end of May to avoid weak spindly growth during the Summer. This will create a new flush of growth and flowering just before Summer heat starts and actually reduce watering requirements through the Summer.

Continue foliar fertilization of flowering shrubs and perennials (Spray your newly installed trees while your at it).
